2011年3月11日，海啸引发了福岛核电站的核泄露，并且海啸顺带将泄露出的放射性物质冲到了福岛的土地上，污染了超过25,000公顷的农田，而这里曾是日本最重要的农业地区之一。 自从灾难发生之后，人们一直对福岛的产物心怀戒备。METER的环境技术专家在事故发生后的几年中一直在与东京大学的一位博士和NPO福岛精工进行合作研究，寻找可以完美将农作物的放射性物质去除的方法。虽然如今数据显示农作物的放射性物质已经消失，达到了可以安全食用的标注哪，但是人们依旧不愿意相信数据。
因此Serviceplan与METER合作制作了《福岛制造》一书，不同于其他书籍，《福岛制造》的纸张由去污的稻草制成，并且全书的内容主要为介绍METER如何净化农作物，并且将这些农作物当作媒介，将这些数据变得更容易让人们理解。书中包括摄影、访谈、报告等内容，让数据以多种形态可视化。
